From Labourer to Leader – Abz Hojok
Meet Abz, Credo’s Strategic Project Manager.
5 years ago Abz started at Credo as a casual Labourer. Now he’s our Strategic project Manager, a key leader and an integral part of our organisation.
When Abz started at Credo, he was running his own vending machine business in Melbourne. It was a good role but it didn’t offer him the challenge and fulfilment he needed.
“I was working on my own, not really talking to anyone. It was just boring work that didn’t get me excited… I’d never worked in construction before so I applied for a labouring role at Credo and started working 3-4 shifts a week.
After working as a casual labourer for 7 months, Abz progressed into a General-Hand role. It didn’t take long after that before his leadership and technical skills were further recognized by Credo’s team leaders.
“I came from a management background, working as a store manager and area manager for a communications company. I was good at managing people and I enjoyed leading teams.”
“Before working at Credo I had never used a tool on a work site before. I think that is one of the best things about working here, anyone can progress within the company if you have the right attitude and apply yourself.”
“We tell our team leaders to recognise hard workers who are interested in growing with the company. Those who want to move into roles with more responsibility don’t have to stay in the same role. If our workers are happier because they are in a role they enjoy, it’s better for them and better for us too.”
